How our costing works

There’s a lot that goes into a successful SEO campaign but we know each and every business is different. We analyse where you’re currently at, then pitch a customised package to fit your goals and budget. We run our campaigns quarterly and review and re-adjust tasks and priorities – this means, that generally, the first 3-months is higher in price to get things going and each quarter you can be sure we’re optimising your budget.

There is a minimum starting cost as there is a minimum amount of work to complete, so for rough budgeting, be sure you are comfortable with our Minimum amount.

  • Does my website need anything?

Our team works with WordPress and use either Yoast or Smart Crawl as SEO plugins. We are happy to work with other CMS’s or SEO plugins, however, we’ll first need to vet your website, it’s updatability and then adjust cost accordingly.

  • Are there any hidden costs?

There are times that our suggestions, especially around new page content or updating existing content can incur more cost. This is generally due to us working with your existing web agency – if we need a new service page and the website doesn’t allow us to build this ourselves, we’ll need a developer to create this page. More often than not, that developer will charge for making those updates.

If we are your web design agency then 9/10, the way we build websites will allow our SEO specialists to create new pages from directly in the CMS, however, there are some special cases where additional functionality or complex layouts are required. In this case, there will be a charge and it will depend on the UX, design and development that is required to complete the page.

That being said, we will always first notify you that an additional cost may be involved and ask you first, what we estimate that cost to be and whether or not you would like to proceed. If you do, a separate invoice will be raised for the work independent from your monthly SEO services.

  • How long does it take to see results?

This is a question that does not have a simple answer. Google promotes websites that have a level of ‘authority’, which is gained by age of your website, the quality of your content, the technical health of your website, quality and quantity of backlinks pointing to your website, just to name a few. These factors all build up over time and that’s why SEO takes time.

So, how long does it take to see results? Well, it depends on a few things:

    1. How quickly you build authority
    2. The competitiveness of your business’ industry
    3. Being sure to avail “bad hat” SEO techniques that Google does not like

With that said, here are some general rule of thumb timescales – these are not guarantees, but guideline timescales if proper SEO tasks are performed:

    • A good blog can start driving traffic within 1-2 months
    • Optimising specific pages on your website with a low competitiveness keyword could rank within 3-6 months
    • Optimising specific pages on your website with a medium competitiveness keyword could rank within 6-12 months
    • Optimising specific pages on your website with a high competitiveness keyword could rank within 12+ months

To make it super clear; the above are all based on previous experience/general SEO timescales but are dependent upon the quality and amount of SEO you do. The more SEO you do – the more time and effort you put into it – the quicker and better you will perform.

  • Why is there a 3-month minimum?

As mentioned in the previous question, SEO takes time. If you’re asking after the first month, “Why am I not rich from your efforts, yet?” then you’re expecting too much. We say, as a minimum, give us 3-months to work with you and let us show you improvement – if really nothing has changed for the better, then we can part ways.

  • So traffic and rankings are up, but still no new enquiries, why?

This can happen, it’s rare, but it can happen. Generally, more traffic to a website for the right keywords will result in more enquiries, however, to describe “SEO”: it focuses on ranking for target keywords and building authority with search engines like Google. With this understanding, it does not look specifically on conversion rate optimisation from page-to-page. Below are a few things that can affect the traffic that we send to your website, not to convert:

    1. No clear calls-to-action
    2. Too many distractions which lead the user elsewhere
    3. Your forms or call links do not work

Now, 3. above, we will generally be covered in our technical audits and its why these need to be reviewed and monitored regularly, however, if we’re driving 1000 visitors a month to a page from our SEO efforts and you have a 0.1% conversion rate, the next step would be to increase that conversion rate.

If we see small areas of change that can be made during our website content audits, we will recommend these to be implemented. If, however, your website has a consistently low conversion rate across your entire website, it could be time for a new website.
